Theatre West Virginia Celebrates GivingTuesday, joining millions around the  world participating in the global generosity movement on November 28, 2023

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people  and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday  will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on  November 28, 2023, and throughout the year.

Theatre West Virginia is the longest continuously operating outdoor theatre in the  United States and is right here in Southern West Virginia! It offers a unique  theatrical experience in one of the most beautiful locations in the world, New River  Gorge National Park & Preserve, Grandview WV. It is a 501c3, non-profit  professional theatre and enjoys partnering with businesses and individuals to bring  performance art to the region.

General Manager Gayle Oaks, who came on board March 1, 2023, says the legacy  of TWV is what drives her toward partnership with the community. “Not only  does Theatre West Virginia present the state’s history on stage, but by creating a  partnership in giving, our supporters become part of the rich heritage of TWV.”  She feels that donors and patrons are investing in the future of the theatre and the state itself.

GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that  encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a  global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate,  and celebrate generosity.

People demonstrate generosity in many ways on GivingTuesday. Whether it’s  helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care  about, or giving to causes we care about, every act of generosity counts.  GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world  and gets billions of impressions on social media from people and organizations  speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get  involved in their communities.

“GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to  drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but  throughout the year.” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, and co-founder.  “With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless  givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the  radical implications of a more generous world.”

About Theatre West Virginia

Theatre West Virginia was founded in 1955 as the West Virginia Historical Drama  Association by concerned citizens from the Raleigh County region who desired to  present West Virginia’s unique culture to as wide an audience as possible.

Founders included former Governor Hulett C Smith, Leo Vecellio, Charles Hodel,  C.S. Lewis, Harry Anderson, Waldo Lafon, M.W. Powers and others who helped  fund the project. In 1961, their dream became a reality with the opening of Honey  in the Rock. The dramatic view of the New River Gorge coupled with a perfectly designed amphitheatre in Grandview have provided more than one million visitors  with the excitement of outdoor musical drama.
